Vermeer

How we supported Vermeer in their digital transformation journey through the design and build of a user-centered telematics platform.

The goal was to build a digital telematics solution that improves servicing and operations.

The
Challenge

Vermeer, a global manufacturer of industrial and agricultural machines, partnered with Twisthink to develop a game-changing telematics solution. Their objective was to improve servicing and operations by leveraging equipment data to deliver valuable insights to two key stakeholder groups – the Vermeer dealer network and the Vermeer equipment owners. The challenge was to present this data in a meaningful way that would optimize machine performance, minimize downtime, and enhance service capabilities.

Collaboration within a cross-functional team set the foundation for a holistic solution.

Work Summary

In the toolbox:

  • Immersion Workshops
  • Stakeholder Research & Analysis
  • Business Viability Assessment
  • User Interface + User Experience Design
  • Web App Implementation
  • Cloud Architecture + Development

The development of the telematics solution was driven by a deep understanding of genuine stakeholder needs. Our team conducted extensive research, interviewing 50 individuals in the field. This enabled us to uncover the challenges they faced to ensure the web application directly addressed their pain points. Throughout the development process, a strong emphasis was placed on maintaining regular communication with the stakeholders, actively seeking their feedback to drive continuous improvement and ensure alignment with their expectations.

These valuable insights led the design of a robust cloud infrastructure capable of seamlessly handling data ingestion, processing, storage, and delivery. As a result, the new application offered a range of valuable features including:

  • Improved visibility into performance data to optimize output
  • Enhanced ability to see upcoming maintenance needs through an urgency score
  • Greater insights into current state, history, and location of equipment
  • Custom notifications on location, alerts, and service needs

The
impact

By adopting a user-centered approach, we supported Vermeer in manufacturing an intuitive and robust telematics web application that seamlessly delivers valuable information to both Vermeer dealers and customers. Equipped with advanced features tailored to meet user needs, the application is evidence of Vermeer’s digital transformation journey.
